Nineteen and feelin’ lonely. Too bad I didn’t know: that space could be filled only by what would touch my soul & too many painful/shameful memories I never knew: what would be the impact of the nearness of two and when will I learn to be a friend to me? Muscle mem’ry makes me cry. The wind, the air in my hair, I watched my own space be invaded. I leapt on fear and hated the consequence I paid for in / Chorus / and ya don’t have a lifetime to learn this lesson once more. Ya don’t have to say yes to any knock on your door. / The stars; the skids; the moonlight. The dirty evidence below. I thought I’d saved myself by not needing to say “No” and Chorus2: too many vacant places I’d never touched left to the newness of a stranger’s clutch and one day I’ll learn to be a friend to me / someday I’m gonna be a friend to me. Muscle mem’ry made me cry, Muscle mem’ry makes me cry muscle mem’ry makes me cry.
