Bubble gum and hopscotch; Cotton candy in their hair. Their mother calls from an open kitchen window “don’t let them stray too far out there!” I’m perched on the brown brick apartment steps my computer on my lap. It’s burnin’ a hole in my tightly weaved suit, and I can’t yet relax. On one thing I am sure: the more I learn the less I know and I’ll have to live 1000 adventures if I ever am to claim or write that these were the most boring days of my life. / These figures in my bank account don’t match, but they have to by next week. My son is callin’ for me to use the sidewalk chalk does he think it’ll blur out my tears he’s too little to notice the strain on my face, he smiles as he holds out his hand. He can’t stop himself from growin’ up and he’s never even used the word “deadline” yet. CHORUS (life…) / There’s a traffic light just paces away I look in it’s domain, my daughter wears a band-aid on her elbow but she smiles all the same. My other daughter’s drawn a town & covered it with bubbles. The summer heat has gotten to her head she’s decided to go jump in puddles. I’ve entered only one number to this spreadsheet but the sidewalk has no fence, it ain’t easy raising three kids I jump to my feet, one day I’ll have time to reflect on the one thing (chorus, tag.)
